The Blue Team

In partnership with the Little Miami Conservancy, we monitor the water quality of the Little Miami River while training young adults in innovative citizen science techniques.

Advanced water quality monitoring equipment (called sondes), donated from Yellow Springs Instruments, are deployed from Yellow Springs to Milford at strategic locations. The sondes are continuously collecting data on dissolved oxygen and conductivity every 15 minutes during the low-flow months of summer and fall. The Blue Team is responsible for collecting the data, maintaining the sondes, analyzing the data, and creating a project study plan for the Ohio EPA. The Blue Team is monitoring the sondes located in the lower section of the Little Miami River watershed while Central State is monitoring the sondes in the upper sections of Little Miami River Watershed. Our Blue Team applies classroom knowledge of water quality to citizen science efforts, and gains real-world experience in the process.
